The Hinomoto Maker is an efficient fire-starting tool designed for camping, outdoor activities, and even emergency preparedness situations.

With this single tool, you can quickly produce a large amount of tinder, eliminating much of the time and effort traditionally required for fire preparation. This allows you to start a campfire or outdoor cooking with greater ease and confidence.

Even those who find it difficult to use a fire starter or ferro rod can easily start a fire with the Hinomoto Maker.

(Cherry and oak are recommended. Never use toxic woods or branches, such as oleander, as they may contain harmful substances.)

No fire starters needed! Simply gather a natural branch and shave it to create tinder and start a fire. It's much easier than making feather sticks and is incredibly versatile. 👌

The blade features 37 dome-shaped cutters. Simply slide a softwood branch or piece of firewood across the surface to quickly produce a sufficient amount of tinder in an ideal shape for fire starting.

At first glance, it may look like a small grater. However, it has been specifically engineered to produce tinder with the ideal characteristics for fire starting. The angle, thickness, and number of the cutting teeth have all been carefully optimized. As a result, no special technique or adjustment is required—simply slide a softwood branch or piece of firewood across the surface to create ideal tinder with ease.

*Please wear gloves when using this product.

The tinder produced has a highly flammable structure that ignites easily, making fire starting simple even for those who are not experienced with ferro rods or fire starters.

Conventional graters, such as daikon graters, carrot shredders, and cheese graters, do not have sufficient cutting performance for this purpose. They tend to produce fine, powdery shavings that are difficult to ignite. In contrast, the Hinomoto Maker is sharp enough to shave even hard dried bonito into proper flakes, demonstrating its ability to produce high-quality tinder that ignites easily.

With the WILDOOR Hinomoto Maker, you can create tinder not only from firewood but also from fallen dry branches, eliminating the need to purchase commercial fire starters. In other words, you can produce your own fire-starting material right on the spot.

Well-seasoned, dry softwood is recommended for best results.

Have you ever been asked to start a fire for a BBQ, only to realize there’s no fire starter available? With the Hinomoto Maker, you can quickly produce tinder on-site from natural materials, giving you peace of mind even in unexpected situations.

Even if the blade eventually becomes dull, it can be easily replaced, allowing the Hinomoto Maker to be used for many years. The main body is precision-machined from solid aluminum and finished with a hard-anodized coating, providing excellent scratch resistance, durability, and long-term performance.

(Easy Blade Replacement!)

Featuring a clean, minimalist design (design patent pending), the Hinomoto Maker is made from durable and corrosion-resistant 5000-series aluminum.
The surface is first bead-blasted and then carefully finished, resulting in a premium camping tool that combines rugged durability with a refined, high-quality appearance.

Another appealing feature is its ability to blend seamlessly with a wide variety of camping styles and gear color schemes.

The Hinomoto Maker is machined from a single solid block of aluminum, incorporating a level of manufacturing precision that goes far beyond its simple appearance.Because aluminum is sensitive to heat and prone to deformation during machining, producing this design requires highly advanced manufacturing techniques. The result is a tool that combines exceptional rigidity with the distinctive beauty of precision-machined aluminum.

Safety was also considered during storage. When storing the Hinomoto Maker, the blade component can be reversed so that the cutting edge is positioned inside the body, helping to prevent accidental contact.

Its compact size makes it extremely portable and convenient to carry. Similar in size to a credit card, it can easily fit into a pocket, backpack, or camping gear pouch.

External Dimensions: 41 × 83 × 30 mm

In addition, it can also be used as a small storage container. It is large enough to hold a compact ferro rod, striker, and even tinder stored in a small zip-lock bag. With everything stored in one place, you can keep all your essential fire-starting tools neatly organized and ready to use.

Despite being made of aluminum, it weighs only about 124 g. Its lightweight design makes it easy to carry in your outdoor gear or emergency kit without adding noticeable weight, so it can always be kept close at hand.

One of the most essential parts of camping is, without a doubt, a campfire. By carrying the compact Hinomoto Maker together with a ferro rod (metal match), you'll always be prepared to start a fire when needed. It also frees you from worries such as running out of lighter or burner fuel, or forgetting to bring fire starters.

I personally experienced this when camping with my wife. I tried to start a fire by making feather sticks from firewood, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get the fire going.Eventually, my wife said, "Why don't you just use a gas burner? Let's eat already." Reluctantly, I gave up on the fire-starting experience I had been looking forward to.
Later, I succeeded in starting fires using char cloth and feather sticks. However, preparing tinder was time-consuming and required a fair amount of effort, and before long I stopped doing it altogether.
It was through these experiences that the idea for this product was born.

We went through countless rounds of prototyping, from the blade component to the main body itself. We would test a prototype, revise the design, build another version, and test it again—over and over. There were times when we struggled to achieve the ideal design and even considered giving up along the way.

We also spent a long time searching for a manufacturer capable of producing the blade, both in Japan and overseas. However, even when prototypes were made, the shavings never had the ideal shape, and the resulting tinder was difficult to ignite.Just as we were about to make one final attempt, a factory we had been working with introduced us to a blade manufacturer. Through that connection, we finally found a company with the expertise and technology needed to bring our vision to life.

The result is the Hinomoto Maker—a unique tool that preserves the satisfaction of starting a fire with your own hands while making the process simple, efficient, and accessible to anyone. From the initial concept to the finished product, it took approximately three years of development to bring this idea to life.

 Is there a product warranty?
Yes. The Hinomoto Maker comes with a 1-year limited warranty.
Please note that the warranty does not cover cosmetic wear and tear caused by normal use, such as scratches, stains, anodized coating wear, damage resulting from improper use, or consumable parts such as the blade component.

Can it shave hardwood as well?

Yes. The Hinomoto Maker can easily shave harder woods, including many hardwood species. However, for producing tinder, we recommend using softer softwoods, as they generally ignite more easily.

Can children use it?

The recommended minimum age is elementary school age and above.
Children should always wear gloves and use the product under the supervision of a responsible adult.

Does it require maintenance?

No special maintenance is required.
However, if the product becomes wet or dirty, please clean it thoroughly and allow it to dry completely to help prevent corrosion and maintain its condition.
